What’s Happening at the Library

Friends of the library Speaker Series

On Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00 p.m., John Ford Sr. will be the fourth guest in the Friends of the Library speaker series. He is the author of Suddenly the Cider Didn't Taste So Good: Adventures of a Game Warden in Maine. The book is hot off the press having just been released in April, 2012. It is a collection of 35 stories based on his 20 years as the game warden in Waldo County Maine.

Although this is his first book as an author, he has written a local newspaper column and is a regular contributor to the Northwoods Sporting Journal. He is also a wildlife artist and did the illustrations for a pamphlet entitled You Alone in the Maine Woods which was being carried by an escaped, armed murderer when Ford helped capture him.

Come meet John Ford Sr. and hear some of his wonderful true stories about everything from confrontations with dangerous poachers to tender rescues of injured animals.

Books will be available for purchase and signing. Cash or checks only please. For further information, please call the library at 832-4484.

The Book Barn

The Friends of the Library Book Barn is closed for the season. Thank you to everyone who made 2011 a successful season, especially Friends volunteers Melissa MacIntire and Sonia Shaw, who gave of their time every Saturday to man the register at the barn.

BOOK DONATIONS FOR NEW FOL FUND-RAISER

With the Book Barn closed until May, the Friends of the Library Board
decided to sell some of the books from the Barn on-line through
various outlets.  So far, with the assistance of two volunteers we
have been successful.  We welcome donations of gently used books in
small doses at the library.  Please no magazines, or Reader's Digest
condensed books.  Text books, non-fiction, large print books, and
books on hobbies and collections seem to do well on-line.  Thank you
for your donations and support of the library.

A library, to modify the famous metaphor of Socrates, should be the delivery room for the birth of ideas—a place where history comes to life.
