Your Imaginative Muse and Watercolors

Join Waldoboro artist Debe Loughlin as she shares her method and tips about watercolor painting techniques. In this basic class students will learn about the materials, a variety of painting surfaces and the magic of applying watercolors onto the paper. Students will learn practical application of the skill and ins and outs and tips of watercolor painting and come away with confidence and an original  watercolor landscape. Students with any questions are welcome to email the instructor at debe.loughlin@gmail.com.

Students are expected to provide their own supplies and the library has a list of the basic and inexpensive supplies needed. No experience is necessary.

This watercolor painting class will meet via Zoom on three Saturdays, February 26, March 5, and March 12, from 10:00 to 10:45. Those interested must register to receive the link to the classes. Class size is limited to ten and enrollment ends on February 19.
This program is free of charge. To enroll, or for more information, please call the library at 832-4484, email to info@waldoboro.lib.me.us, or ask at the front desk.

SUPPLIES
  • any kind of watercolor paper- 8 by 10 inches up to 9 by 12 inches ( at least 5-10 pieces)
  • watercolors in tubes or palette - cheap is good-
  • a few wide brushes - 1 inch, 2 inch natural bristle is good, old toothbrush
  • a few watercolor brushes ( multipurpose packet is good) these are also used for acrylic paint
(Again, do not spend a lot of money. Walmart has a good selection in a pack as does Salt Bay art supply in Damariscotta.)
  • paper towels, household sink sponges
Watercolor will stain certain fabrics, formica, wood, but it usually wipes up fine
  • a roll of masking tape- Debe likes to use 1 inch tape - Artists tape comes right off but is pretty expensive, so masking tape will do.
  • newspapers for covering your surface to paint on.
