The Book Group meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 2:00 to 3:00 at the library. New members are always welcome!  Upcoming conversations will be about:

July 15: Rocket Boys is a 1998 memoir by Homer Hickam about his youth in the West Virginia coal mining town of Coalwood, where he and his friends, inspired by the launch of Sputnik, formed the Big Creek Missile Agency (BCMA) to build and launch rockets, dreaming of a life beyond the mines.

August 19: Clear by Carys Davies is a 2024 prize-winning historical novella set in 1843 Scotland, focusing on the unlikely bond between an impoverished minister and the last inhabitant of a remote island. As part of the Scottish Clearances, the minister is sent to evict the last inhabitant.

September 16:
Stoner is a 1965 novel by John Williams that follows the life of Wil-liam Stoner, a quiet, unassuming man born to poor farmers who becomes an English professor, experiencing a life of academic and personal disappointments, yet finding meaning in literature and his work. It became an unexpected bestseller and is now considered a classic, praised for its quiet power and emotional depth.

October 21: The Master Butchers Singing Club
is a 2003 historical fiction novel by Louise Erdrich, set in Argus, North Dakota. It follows German immigrant Fidelis Waldvogel, a WWI vet-eran who becomes a butcher and forms a singing club, and his family, as they navigate life in America.
